The Satrosphere Science Centre is one of the premier Aberdeen attractions that is located in
proximity to the Copthorne Hotel Aberdeen. This institution is designed to appeal especially to
children and families, although it is hard to think of any traveller who would resist being
captivated by the fascinating sights and sounds offered by the facility. This modern science museum
is well known for its hands-on exhibits, all of which can be manipulated by visitors.
The name ‘Satrosphere’ derives from the acronym SATRO, which stands for ‘Science and
Technology Regional Organization’. This museum was Scotland’s pioneering discovery and science
institution, which opened to visitors in 1988. The centre is affiliated with the Scottish Science
Centres Network and such establishments as the Glasgow Science Centre, Our Dynamic Earth in
Edinburgh and Sensation Dundee.
The Satrosphere Science Centre boasts more than 50 interactive hands-on exhibits as well as
science displays and shows which are intended not only to entertain visitors but also create a
genuine interest and enthusiasm for the world of science. The intention is to inspire the
scientific experts of the future generation and to generate renewed interest in university-standard
science courses which have seen diminished attendance in recent years.
Satrosphere gives visitors the chance to operate a mobile phone underwater, control their own
tornado, or even to walk into a bubble, just to name a few of the unusual attractions at the
interactive museum. Since the displays and interactive exhibits are constantly changing, each visit
to Satrosphere will be different and fascinating. Birthday parties for children can also be
organised on the premises if arrangements are made in advance – an ideal opportunity to give a
budding scientist the treat of a lifetime!
