To coincide with the University of Aberdeen's Word Festival, this exhibition showcases a series of etchings of famous authors by Steadman. The collection includes the world famous artist and illustrator's interpretations of Virginia Woolf, Samuel Beckett and Hunter S Thompson. Steadman is best known as a cartoonist and caricaturist, renowned for his political and satirical work but also for his book illustrations, notably for Alice in Wonderland, for which he won the Francis Williams award. Aberdeen hotel visitors can find a number of areas in the city's Art Gallery to pique their interest, including a collection of items saved from Hall Russell, Aberdeen's last shipyard. There is also a section of the gallery called The Noble Peasant, which looks at the way in which artists at the end of the 19th century began to ennoble peasants, turning ordinary workers into heroes and heroines. |
