Drayton Manor in Dudley is actually a modern British theme park built on the grounds of the historic Drayton Manor in Tamworth, Staffordshire. The old Drayton Manor was a stately British house that was built in the 1700's and was the home of Robert Peel, who was once the Prime Minister of England. Today only the clock tower remains of the historic building and the rest of the area is occupied by the Drayton Manor Theme Park.

The Drayton Manor Theme Park being one of the most popular in Britain draws in crowds exceeding one million visitors a year. The theme park is also one of the oldest in Britain, having opened up in 1949 as an inland pleasure resort; subsequent growth has been attributed to the quality of the rides and the novelty of the themes.

One of the popular rides here is Shockwave, which is Europe's only stand up rollercoaster. Other rides include Apocalypse- a freefall tower where visitors have a choice between standing up or sitting on the floor during free fall! Exhilarating theme park rides such as Pirate Adventure which is based on the Pirates of the Caribbean movie and rides such as The Haunting, Excalibur, Splash Canyon, G Force, Pandemonium and Maelstrom can be enjoyed here.

For those with weaker hearts and seeking amusement away from the rides, the Drayton Manor has a 15 acre zoo which exhibits animals from more than 100 different species including big cats, monkeys, birds of prey and snakes. As a hotel near Drayton Manor Dudley, Copthorne Hotel Merry Hill Dudley puts you in touch with the region's entertainment centre.
