Nymans Garden in Sussex is a one of a kind garden, because of its theatrical layout and daring design. It was created by three generations of the Messel family, which managed this garden from 1890 to 1992. The present design of the garden reflects the taste of Leonard Messel and his wife Maud; the couple had three children one of whom was Oliver, who later came to be known as one of the most daring designers of his time.

Built in the backdrop of the ruined Nyman House, it provides a romantic ambience to a charming collection of flora while the surviving rooms of the mansion are open for public display. The garden covers an area of 30 acres and is laid out in a series of ‘rooms’ on different levels that are connected via staircases or grassy walkways.

The ‘rooms’ are walled by tall hedges and in some cases by trees which shelter the exotic plants that the garden is famous for. Among the popular areas at Nymans Garden are The Rose Garden, The Sunk Garden, The Pinetum and The Top Garden.

Nymans Garden is located close to the Copthorne Hotel London Gatwick that provides the best accommodation in London Gatwick. The hotel is also close to many other places of interest and cultural highlights of the region.
