A regal and historic building that is situated right at the heart of Newcastle, the Theatre Royal has been a well respected theatre venue ever since its inception in 1788. The theatre has always hosted a variety of shows that include ballet, dance, drama, musicals, and even opera.

The shows that take place here are all part of a visiting annual show tour that takes place in the UK. Over the course of the year the theatre will be hosting around 30 to 35 visiting shows. One of the regular attractions is the Royal Shakespeare Company's annual visit to the theatre which it considers its northern base.

Being one of the most historic and cultural venues that is located in Newcastle, the Royal Theatre continues to be home to vast arrays of performances in the arts. Not only is the building famous but it is also regularly used as a navigation landmark.

The theatre itself features rich interiors that convey an impressive sense of grandeur and style that adds another level of enjoyment to attending a performance at Theatre Royal.

The exterior façade featuring an impressive set of tall pillars is the same as the one originally constructed in 1837, but the interior on the other hand was rebuilt after it burned down in 1899. Since this initial disaster the theatre has gone under refurbishment several times and it is a sign of the venue's importance to the local community.

The theatre also features a café that serves specialty coffees, cakes, pastries and various other items. A pre theatre platter menu is also on offer that includes various dishes including Italian cured meats, smoked salmon, roast peppers, and more.

Tickets for performances can be obtained by visiting the box office which is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 AM till 8 PM (and 10AM to 8 PM on Wednesdays). On Sundays and bank holidays the box office is only open two hours prior to performances.

Alternatively theatre goers can phone the box office to make advance bookings or book online through the official website.
