The borough of Slough located within the Royal County of Berkshire is one of England's most
ethnically diverse neighbourhoods. Situated towards the west of Greater London, this borough
contains the towns of Windsor, Maidenhead, Uxbridge and Bracknell.
From a historical perspective Slough had been in existence since the 12th century when it was
a small hamlet on the road to Windsor and was known by the name Sloo. During the 17th century
Slough was designated as a place from where travellers changed horses, following the construction
of the Great Western Railway saw Slough being granted a railway station along with Eton and
Windsor. A number of historical buildings can be seen in Slough such as the Baylis House and
Godolphin Court and St. Laurence's Church. Historical artifacts from the area can be viewed at the
Slough Museum.
Today Slough has become a true urban metropolis, with old buildings being replaced by new
office blocks and shopping malls. The multimillion dollar Heart of Slough project aims to make the
town a leading European hub for creative media, information and technological industries.
Interesting things to do in Slough include going shopping in the town centre and to visit the
nearby attractions of Eton and Windsor. The close proximity to the Heathrow International Airport
means that business travelers find it convenient to travel from
Slough
Berkshire. Hotels such as the
Copthorne Hotel Slough
Windsor offer the best possible accommodation and access to nearby attractions in the area.
