Windsor hotel visitors will be able to take part in an event of historical significance next month – the Henley Royal Regatta.

This event has been held in Henley-on-Thames, just outside Windsor, every year since 1839, except during the two world wars.

It was originally organised by the mayor and residents of Henley as a public attraction featuring a fair and other amusements and activities.

Over the years, however, it evolved to include the competitive amateur rowing events that now provide its main purpose.

The event grew from encompassing just one day in 1839 to covering two days between 1840 and 1886, gradually expanding to the point that it has lasted five days since 1986.

Qualifying races take place in the week before the regatta, which this year will be held between July 2nd and 6th.
