Once only the scene of a railway station amongst a derelict backdrop, today the area of Earls Court Exhibition Centre is a thriving area that plays host to numerous world class events.

Originally the area of Earl's Court was an uninhabited wasteland which eventually ended up becoming a mass transit point with the construction of railway facilities. The area still remained mostly derelict until an entrepreneur called John Robinson Whitley decided to use the land as an entertainment venue. While this plan went ahead Mr. Whitley himself never managed to make his operations profitable. Despite this, others followed in his footsteps with considerably more success.

In 1935 the land was sold and the new owners decided to create a venue that would rival the nearby Olympia Exhibition Centre. Despite running in to numerous problems the building eventually opened in 1937 to host the Chocolate and Confectionary Exhibition.

This main building has come to be known as Earls Court One due to the construction of a newer building for the exhibition centre. Earls Court One houses an impressive swimming pool that is so large that it takes two weeks to fill and two weeks to empty. This is done so as to avoid putting a strain on local resources and so filling the pool can only be done in the late hours of the night.

Earls Court Two was constructed to meet the demands of more exhibition space that was required. The building was opened by Princess Diana in 1991 and cost approximately 100 million.

Earls Court Exhibition Centre has been home to numerous musical events by world famous artists including Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Celine Dion, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Queen, and U2 just to name a few.

Beside these musical greats the exhibition centre also hosts other events that include the Brit Awards, Ideal Home Show and even some World Wrestling Entertainment Insurrection shows. The Earls Court Exhibition Centre will also be hosting the summer 2012 Olympic volleyball events as well.
