At one time serving as the hunting grounds of Henry VIII, today Hyde Park is a peaceful scene of
harmony and well being. Hyde Park is one of the largest parks in London and is one of the Royal
Parks that covers an impressive 142 hectares and features over 4000 trees.
Visitors to Hyde Park can indulge in a wide variety of activities that includes rowing,
rollerblading, horse riding, boating and a great location to spot wildlife. Of course visitors can
even just sit on a bench and relax or take a stroll amongst the lovely scenery.
Hyde Park also features
two restaurants, both of which provide scenic views of the park. The Dell features a large outdoor
area with a terrace and garden. The restaurant serves a sizeable selection of food and drink. Lido
Café on the other hand features spectacular views of the Serpentine and a large alfresco dining
area. Enjoy a refreshing meal amongst the natural beauty of Hyde Park at this restaurant. Both of
these restaurants are licensed to serve alcohol as well. In addition to these two, a third smaller
café at the Tennis Centre offers refreshments for both players and guests alike.
Hyde Park has had a long history with cinema, with a scene of the first ever moving pictures
ever recorded at the park. Since that time it has been the scene of numerous movies including the
1953 movie 'Genevieve' that told the story of the annual London to Brighton classic car race that
still begins in the park today.
Another famous attraction in the park is the Diana, Princess of Wales memorial that was
opened by the Queen on the 6th of July 2004. The monument was constructed using the finest
materials and the latest technology and represents Diana's life by having two streams of water that
cascade from the highest point downwards, moving energetically before stopping in a calm pool at
the bottom.
Hyde Park is also home to a range of wildlife and fauna. Visitors to the park can see a
variety of plant life in the meadow area which has grown more diverse over recent years. The
variety of vegetation in the park provides a habitable home for a variety of wildlife that chooses
the park as its home.
Hyde Park also is accessible for those who have limited mobility as the park features
electric buggies that pick up guests and provide a guided tour. These tours can also drop guests
off at a particular exhibit and pick them up at a later time.
