The Burrell Collection was presented by Sir William Burrell and his wife in 1944. It was after this event that the city acquired the single largest donation of art ever made by a single individual as William Burrell had been an art collector since his teenage years.

The collection itself is made up of a variety of different artwork types that span many genres. At the Burrell Collection in Glasgow visitors can browse through collections of medieval art, stained glass, oak furniture, and numerous European paintings. The collection also houses impressionist art by Degas and Cezanne as well as a range of modern sculptures and various other artifacts that were collected by Burrell.

After the donation of the collection there was no suitable site which could house the artwork.  A piece of land was eventually donated and it was on this site that the current Burrell building was constructed to serve the specific purpose of housing the Burrell collection. The building was originally opened by the Queen and was declared as being Scotland’s greatest post war building.

Visitors to this momentous art collection can discover the rich tapestry of art that is housed at the Burrell Collection. At any given time only 3000 of the 8000 items are ever displayed. Visitors can also discover the charming interiors that enrich the entire experience.

When visiting the Burrell Collection guests looking for hotel rooms in Glasgow that offers comfort and convenience will not be disappointed with Millennium Hotel Glasgow.
