Originally conceived by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the Willow Tea Room was created to deliver a
unique tea experience whilst seated in a charming and atmospheric environment.
Being a vintage building, visitors to the Willow Tea Rooms today can experience the splendour
of the past when visiting the tea room. While originally there was only one tea room, a newer room
was opened at a later date in order to expand and promote the experience further. Today the Willow
Tea Rooms are located in two different locations in Glasgow.
The Willow Tea Rooms in Sauchiehall Street were conceived and completely designed by Charles
Rennie Mackintosh and it was the only room which he had complete control over. Mackintosh designed
everything from the interior and exterior to the very uniforms that were worn by the waitresses.
The biggest highlight of visiting this tea room is to experience the charming interiors and
atmosphere that is generated.
The Willow Tea Rooms in Buchanan Street were created in order to expand the original Willow
Tea Room and to allow more people to be a part of the experience. This room features the White
Dining Room and the Chinese Room which both offer a unique experience. Both rooms are in stark
contrast with each other as the White Dining Room is bright and full of high chairs while the
Chinese Room features a much darker atmosphere.
Both Willow Tea Rooms in Glasgow offer a healthy selection of tea and small bite sized
snacks. The menu at the Willow Tea Rooms includes croissants, bagels, toasts, tea breads, pastries,
sweets and even ice cream.
Which ever room you decide to visit the experience is sure to be a memorable one. In addition
both of the rooms are open to use as a meeting venue and provide an ideal venue from which to host
an event.
Staying in one of the hotels in Glasgow, Scotland that is located close to the tea rooms such
as Millennium Hotel Glasgow provides guests with convenient access to this attraction.
