News|Gi Festival comes to GlasgowIn April this year Glasgow will host the Gi Festival, the city's biennial celebration of contemporary visual arts. Between April 11th and 27th, Glasgow hotel visitors will be able to explore exhibitions dedicated to the city's homegrown talent as well as artists from all over the world. Showcases will be held at various locations, from established venues such as the Gallery of Modern Art and the Modern Institute to found spaces, public sites and even an artist's living room. One of the highlights of the first festival of 2008 will be a major new show by Turner Prize-nominated artist Jim Lambie in the Gallery of Modern Art. Catherine Yass will also present her latest work High Wire, which features a tightrope walker crossing a space between Glasgow's Red Road flats. People interested in the heritage of the Scottish city may want to visit a new exhibition by Jonathan Monk that will highlight the history of Tramway, a former tram shed that is now a cutting-edge arts venue. Glasgow hotel visitors will also be able to enjoy some theatre at the Gi Festival, with John Tiffany's award-winning play Black Watch being staged at the SECC. |
