News|The Lighthouse beams back to the Empire ExhibitionGlasgow's Lighthouse venue will present a number of films to mark the 70th anniversary of the Empire Exhibition this year. The Empire Exhibition was held in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow in 1938 and was organised to mark 50 years since the city's first great showcase, the International Exhibition, which was held in Kelvingrove Park. Despite the summer of 1938 being one of the wettest on record, the exhibition attracted millions of visitors. To mark the event this year, the Lighthouse will screen a selection of rare documentary and amateur films between April 19th and June 22nd. The pictures will explore the significance of the exhibition and its place in Glasgow's cultural history as part of a citywide series of events. Glasgow hotel visitors can find the Lighthouse, an architecture and design centre that also houses the Mackintosh Centre and Mackintosh Tower, on Mitchell Lane. |
