Darwin Centre tours are available every day of the week and offer a look at the details that surround the 27 kilometres of shelves and 22 million specimens to be found in this part of the museum. One of the highlights of the tour is a giant squid, an 8.6-metre-long creature that was caught off the coast of the Falkland Islands in 2004 and went on display in the museum in 2006. Another pursuit that visitors can take part in is a tour of the botany department at the Natural History Museum. These tours are held on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and enable explorers to find out more about the work of the museum's botanical research scientists.
