News|NPG focuses on black actorsThe National Portrait Gallery (NPG) is presenting an exhibition this year dedicated to black film actors. Called Want to See More of Me?, the show was created by photographer Donald MacLellan in partnership with the UK Film Council. The exhibition opened on April 25th and London hotel visitors will be able to see it at the gallery on St Martin's Place until September 7th. Portraits in the show have been designed to celebrate both the individual and collective achievements of their subjects and explore themes including diversity in art and culture and on-screen representation. Every performer in the collection of images is looking directly at the viewer, often in a challenging way, in order to provoke a reaction and stimulate thought. MacLellan's photographs have regularly appeared in national and international magazines over the past decade and his previous subjects have included Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Ewan McGregor and Benjamin Zephaniah. Later this year the National Portrait Gallery will present some of the outstanding pieces from the 2008 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize.
