The Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum will be exploring the medium of the book and its various guises and uses at a special exhibition this year.

Kensington hotel visitors will be able to see Blood on Paper: The Art of the Book at the V&A until June 29th.

The exhibition will look at the range of ways in which the book has been treated by modern artists, at a time when the medium's status is being challenged by the ceaseless growth of television and the internet.

Works included in the show range from iconic items that emerged after the Second World War to unusual pieces by artists who are better known for their work in other fields.

Production methods and materials also vary significantly, from prints to commercially produced books to large installations and sculptures.

The exhibition includes many pieces that are on public display for the first time and features names such as Pablo Picasso, Damien Hirst, David Hockney and Alberto Giacometti.
