Location & Attractions|Hyde ParkCommissioned to Charles Bridgeman for landscaping, the Serpentine as well as the picturesque park was completed in 1733. A lush rose garden was further added to the already beautiful gardens in 1994, adding to the striking array of foliage and fauna that exists today. A location favoured for mass demonstrations, past instances have included The Chartists, Reform Leagues, The Suffragettes and the Stop the War Coalition. Apart from the demonstrations, Hyde Park is also a favoured venue for concerts and live performances such as Capital 95.8 Party In the Park, Live 8, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pink Floyd and Queen. A popular sight and interest within Hyde Park, the Speaker’s Corner allows for public speaking. Other sights at Hyde Park are The Tyburn gallows, Rotten Row, The Crystal Palace and the Holocaust Memorial. A famous monument at the park is the Diana, Princess of Wales memorial, located south of the Serpentine; this oval stoned fountain is a beautiful yet simple tribute to her undying memory. The Diana Memorial Fountain is built to reflect the princess’s life, with water flowing from either side to meet together at the bottom in a calm pool of water. Hyde Park which is home to fine specimens of the Weeping Beech is said to be a fitting ode to the memorials located within the park. The park is open throughout the day, from 5a.m. until midnight; and visitors are often seen having picnic on the greens.
