Demarked as one of the Royal Parks of London, the Kensington Gardens was once part of the
Kensington Palace. It is also a member of the many parks found within the heart of London made up
of Hyde Park, Green Park, St. James Park and Kensington Gardens.
Covering an area of 275 acres, the gardens are beautifully landscaped with magnificent
greenery, delightful shrubbery and ornate flowerbeds. With the glorious Italian Gardens, A Peter
Pan statue, the Serpentine Gallery as well as the Albert Memorial this is the ideal setting for a
royal palace.
Over the years ever since King William III bought the Kensington Palace as well the expansion
of the palace gardens in 1689, several adjustments have been made by the royal family. The
red-bricked building housing plants during the winter was built and named the Orangery. Queen
Caroline, wife of King George II commissioned many additions such as the round pond, the Serpentine
as well as Long Water which is a picturesque sight formed by several streams coming together. A
recent addition is the pictorial Italian Gardens and the Albert Memorial which pays homage to Queen
Victoria’s husband and royal consort Prince Albert.
This Royal Park holds several attractions. One such attraction is the Kensington Palace, the
official resident of the late Princess Diana. The Serpentine Gallery is a modern art gallery and is
located near the Serpentine. An attraction paying homage to the late princess is the Diana,
Princess of Wales Memorial playground, which is one of the three playgrounds found within
Kensington Gardens. The modern Peter Pan themed playground within the Royal Park includes a bronze
statue of the Disney character. One highlight of the gardens is the Sunken Garden which was built
in 1909 based on a garden found in Hampton Court.
Offering the public the comfort of utilising the area through the day up until dusk, the park
is a great venue for jogging, walking as well as tranquil picnics. Take time to relax at this
beautiful setting while staying at a luxury hotel in Kensington London. Enjoy the comforts of
