The Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum presents a grand setting to visitors and history lovers alike. With a realm of history to discover through the ages, the museum offers an enthralling experience like never before.

One of the large museums found on Exhibition Road in South Kensington, London, the National History Museum or the Museum of Natural History, neighbours popular attractions such as the Science Museums as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum. Sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the museum is considered a Non-Department public body and houses an array of celebrated trinkets and magnificent artefacts.

The Museum of Natural History standing on the grandiose Alfred Waterhouse building was opened in 1881 with collections from the British Museum. The building houses a great collection with the incorporation of the Geographical Museum and the recent addition of the Darwin Centre.

The Natural History Museum holds nearly 70 million items, for the viewing pleasure of the public, with the likes of life and earth specimens. Celebrated for its research, and specialising in taxonomy, it’s identification as well as conservation; the museum has amassed a number of specimens for exhibition. Also home to an array of historical as well as scientific articles, one such great specimen is the collection of Charles Darwin.

The Museum of Natural History is also famed for its magnificent display of dinosaur skeletons and its elaborate architecture. With its vaulted high ceiling and majestic ambience, the museum dubbed a ‘Cathedral of Nature’, creates an aura of grandeur for visitors.

Other than its main attractions, the museum provides educational programmes in the prospect of engaging the public. Another popular programme is Nature Live, formerly known as Darwin Centre Live this programme provides visitors the chance to meet scientists from the museum and discuss various topics of their interest. These interactive events are held everyday. When at the museum make sure to partake in this wonderful activity and amass the knowledge acquired throughout history.

A great attraction within the culturally and educational hub of Albertopolis, the Natural History Museum offers many aspects of history to visitors of London. Hotel accommodation at the quintessential Millennium Bailey’s Hotel London Kensington offers some of the best facilities, warm hospitality and exceptional service.
