The London Eye

London offers a great many things to do while on holiday, and the iconic London Eye stands among one of the top most tourist attractions in the city.

Standing proudly at 135 metres, this majestic architectural wonder offers spectacular and breathtaking views of the city of London. With impressive grandiosity, it is no surprise that the London Eye is one of London’s most favoured attractions with over 3.5 million visitors each year.

Located west of the Jubilee Gardens and on the South Bank of the River Thames the London Eye holds a capacity of 32 passenger capsules that can accommodate approximately 25 passengers in each capsule. On a clear day visitors can see as far as 25 miles, providing bird eye views of this vibrant city. The tallest cantilevered observation wheel in the world supported by a large A-frame on one side; the London Eye is one of the city’s greatest tourist attractions. Each rotation takes approximately 30 minutes, and special occasions such as parties and even a private wedding can be organised in a capsule. Adding a prefect prelude to a trip on the London Eye, a 4D experience is available with breathtaking views and dramatic effects come free with every ticket purchased. Visitors have the option of visiting the London Eye by day or night, giving a whole different perspective, depending on the time of day.

Officially opened by the Prime Minister Tony Blair in December 1999, it was only opened to the general public in March 2000. The London Eye is also the centre of attention during new years’ with its spectacular 10 minute display of fireworks, enthralling viewers as the fireworks are set off from the wheel at midnight.

Stay at a hotel near the London Eye such as the Millennium Bailey’s Hotel London Kensington and make sure to visit this grand monument, which offers spectacular scenic views of the city.
