There are many locations in West London that would serve as an ideal location from which to explore the capital, among which is the fashionable district of Knightsbridge. This trendy and popular area incorporates some of London's best-known and most popular locations within its boundaries. It runs along the south side of Hyde Park, spanning across the City of Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. With such inviting locations in close proximity, it can be certain that visitors to London will have an enjoyable trip if they choose this London hotel in Knightsbridge as their starting point.

Knightsbridge is named after the crossing of the River Westbourne which now runs underground. It was recorded that Queen Matilda was met by the citizens of London at the Knight's Bridge in 1141. The district formerly had a fairly unsavoury reputation, entirely distinct from the status that it enjoys today. It was a popular area for highwaymen and robbers to ply their trade, with travellers on the Western Route out of London who often became the unfortunate victims. Knightsbridge’s great transformation dawned during the 19th Century, which led the city into a popular and affluent area in which this hotel in Knightsbridge plays a significant role.

One of the most notable and popular results of this transformation into the modern world, is the reputation that Knightsbridge has now earned as a haven for high-class shopping. Among the world famous shops that can be found in the Knightsbridge area is Harrods, the department store owned by Egyptian businessman Mohammed Al Fayed. This store is one of the most famous in the country for a reason – it covers 4.5 acres and has over one million square feet of selling space, with over 330 different departments, making it one of the largest department stores in the world.

Of course it is not the only high-profile shopping location in Knightsbridge – visitors will only have to walk a short distance to find Harvey Nichols or to see if anything catches their eye at the glamorous outlets bearing the names of Chanel, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik and more.

There are plenty of opportunities for entertainment in Knightsbridge that do not require such liberal use of a credit card, one of which is the Serpentine Gallery, London's best-known spaces for the exhibition of contemporary art. Admission to this famous gallery is free and approximately 750,000 visitors pass through its doors every year. Masterpieces of some of the world’s most famous artists in history have been displayed in the Serpentine, including Man Ray, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and Henry Moore.

Visitors who would like to immerse themselves in culture with a slightly more historic appeal may like to pay a visit to Kensington Palace. This year the palace will be hosting Diana: A Princess Remembered, an audiovisual exhibition drawing on the memorable moments in the life of the much-loved Princess.

Whether visitors would like nothing more than spending a day visiting the high-profile stores and boutiques, or prefer to explore the local museums, galleries and historic buildings, there are few better areas of London that cater more comprehensively for a range of tastes and interests than Knightsbridge.
