The London Eye formerly known as the Millennium Wheel is the most popular tourist attraction in the UK and is visited by over 3 million people each year. When it was originally constructed the wheel was the tallest one in the world but it has since been surpassed by the Star of Nanchang and the Singapore Flyer. It is however, standing at a height of 443 feet one of the tallest Ferris wheels in Europe.  However it is still described as being one of the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheels by its operators as it only has a supporting frame on one side of the wheel.

This spectacular wheel carries 32 capsules that are enclosed but feature glass panels and an area to sit in. Each of these capsules usually holds about 35 people and the complete revolution of the wheel takes approximately 30 minutes to complete providing plenty of time to soak in all the different views of the city of London.

The capsules themselves are always moving at a slow speed which easily allow guests to step on and off as the capsule comes back to ground level. The wheel is sometimes stopped however to let those who have difficulty climbing on board.

One of the interesting characteristics of the wheel is its resemblance to that of the wheel of a bicycle and since its inception it has become a major landmark and tourist attraction that has lead it to be compared to the Eiffel Tower in terms of its significance as a symbol.

When guests are finished going on the breathtaking ride that is the London Eye, a nearby gift shop and Café Manga can also be visited. The gift shop offers London Eye themed gifts and souvenirs as well as post cards and guidebooks while Café Manga is the perfect place to have a cup of tea along with a rich slice of cake.

Several transport options are on offer to get to the London Eye and guests can travel by coach, subway, bus, car, boat and by rail. However staying at a hotel near London Eye such as the Millennium Hotel London Mayfair provides easy and convenient access to this attraction.
