The Madejski Stadium, home to the Reading Football Club was opened in 1998 in honour of its
chairperson, John Madejski. The stadium started on its memorable journey alongside Reading FC when
they beat Luton Park in a match of 3-0. Reading FC’s Grant Brebner scored the first ever goal
within the venue, marking his name down in the history of the stadium.
With the ability to hold a capacity of over 24, 000, this all-seater bowl stadium not only
holds football matches but also those of the Rugby Union and London Irish. Concerts held at the
Madejski Stadium include the Summer XS festival series and performances by Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Blue, Busted and Sir Elton John.
Marking a turning point in the history of the Reading Football Club, the participation in the
Premier League in 2006/2007, was decisive in the intended extension to be carried out on the
Madejski Stadium.
The North Stand is dedicated to supporters of the home team while the South Stand is
dedicated for away supporters. The East Stand, which is the most popular location in the stadium,
houses the majority of season ticket holders as well as the most vocal supporters. The West Stand
on the other hand, is the main stand, which contains the conference facilities, the teams’ changing
rooms, press box, control room and executive boxes. This stand is also connected to the Millennium
Madejski Hotel Reading.
Football lovers should definitely not miss the opportunity to visit this stadium when staying
in Berkshire. A hotel in Reading such as Millennium Madejski Hotel Reading which is located in the
same complex as the stadium provides the perfect accommodation option for Reading supporters when
